Splitting a PDF creates a new document from selected pages of an existing file. It is useful when a large report contains only a few pages that need to be shared, when chapters must be separated, or when an attachment needs to contain only the relevant section.
Use the Split PDF tool to choose pages and create a smaller document while keeping your original file.
Decide which pages belong in the new file
Before extracting anything, note the page numbers as they appear in the PDF viewer. Printed page numbers inside the document can differ from the file’s actual page sequence when a cover, contents page or appendix is present.
Use ranges carefully
A range such as 3-7 usually means every page from the third through the seventh PDF page. Some workflows also allow individual pages or several ranges. Review the selected count before creating the output so important context is not accidentally omitted.
Keep the original PDF
Create an extracted copy rather than replacing the only source. If a page range is wrong or a later request needs additional pages, the original remains available.
Splitting does not automatically reduce every kind of data
A smaller page count often produces a smaller file, but embedded fonts, images, forms, attachments or shared resources can still affect the result. If file size is the main problem, splitting and compression are separate operations.
Check interactive content and signatures
Forms, bookmarks, internal links and digital signatures can behave differently after pages are extracted. A digitally signed source can lose signature validity when it is modified. Verify the output if these features matter.
Review the new PDF before sharing
- Open the output and confirm the first and last required pages.
- Check the page order and total page count.
- Confirm that readable quality has been preserved.
- Review links, forms and annotations if the source used them.
- Check that no unnecessary confidential pages remain.
Extract only what you need
The UptimeFixer Split PDF tool is designed for quick page extraction. Keep the original source, select the required pages carefully and inspect the exported file before sending it to someone else.
